Crowds March for Change
Posted on 21 September 2019
Millions of students (and their supporters) around the world peacefully marched yesterday (Friday 20th, of September), asking that world leaders take action on climate change. The protests, which supposedly took place in more than 150 countries on all seven continents, came ahead of the 2019 United Nations Climate Conference.
16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg played a massive role in promoting these #climatestrikes via her social media accounts. Adding comments like, "World leaders from everywhere are telling us that students need to be at school doing work," she said. "I'd like to see them at their parliaments doing their jobs for once."
Although it's not official, organisers at 350.org wrote on Twitter that around four million people participated in Fridays' rallies worldwide. This being the start of 5,800 protests across the globe within the next week. Collectively they are expected to be the biggest protests ever against the threat posed to the planet by rising temperatures.
