How Dolphins Choose Their Friends
Posted on 1 August 2019
A group of researchers in Western Australia has discovered that dolphins like hanging out with other dolphins who have similar interests. Which is very common to human behaviour!
Dolphins use a special technique to dive deep into the water to find food. They grab sponges from the seafloor and wear them over their beaks to help them go deeper so they can forage for things to eat. In the study, the researchers observed dolphins who do and don’t use the sponge as a foraging tool. They found out that the male dolphins who used the sponge to forage tended to spend more time with other male dolphins who did the same thing.
