Which European Country is Rapidly Going Green?
Posted on 15 July 2020
The answer is: Austria! While the entire European Union has set ambitious targets to try and reach climate neutrality (that is, only doing things that don’t negatively impact the climate) by 2050, Austria is going one better by trying to achieve this by 2040!
The strategy is being driven by Austria’s minister for climate, energy and transportation, Leonore Gewessler. One of her biggest green initiatives involves doing a huge overhaul of the country’s public transport network. The plan would offer residents cheap travel, incentivising them to avoid driving their cars.
Other strategies include putting a tax on environmentally damaging activities, investing in green projects, and encouraging people to use cleaner heating and power sources like solar power.
